Youth Program Staff
Job Description
The Lowell Association for the Blind (LAB) has an opening for Youth Program Staff to work in its Youth Department. LAB provides programming for blind and visually impaired young people ages 5-21. We are working to help all participants discover and reach their full potential and participate fully in their communities.
Responsibilities:
· Provide direct service at all program activities. Programs take place primarily on weekends with weekday programs scheduled during the summer and school vacation weeks. Programs currently include:
o Youth Program – Social/Recreational, ages 5-13
o Senior Youth Program - Social/Recreational, ages 14-21
o Senior Teen Employment Program (STEP)
o Visually Impaired Partners (VIP) Program – Mentoring with blind and visually impaired adults and youth, ages 14-21
· We provide door-to-door transportation. Youth Program Staff assist with participant pick-ups and supervise participants in agency vehicle.
· Act as a sighted guide as necessary.
· Be a positive role model for all program participants.
· Assist with participant supervision during program hours.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with youth and teens preferred; experience working with blind and visually impaired youth a plus, but not required.
• Must have a valid Driver’s License and excellent driving record.
· Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and most weekends.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
· Must be able to pass a CORI background check.
· Fluency in Spanish a plus
· Weekends required
This position reports to the Youth Program Coordinator.
