Job Description
The Longwood Collective seeks a seasoned financial and administrative leader to join the executive team of an innovative, nationally respected nonprofit committed to enhancing the lives of the people who live, work, learn or receive care in Boston’s Longwood Medical and Academic Area (LMA) – one of the City’s most dynamic neighborhoods and an epicenter of innovation, healthcare, education and culture. Reporting to and serving as a thought partner to the President and CEO, this key role provides financial oversight and management of $40 million in annual revenues and $90+ million in assets, and ensures the financial wellbeing of the organization and its subsidiaries (i.e., MASCO Services, Inc.) and affiliates (i.e., LMA Childcare Center, Colleges of the Fenway, Longwood Medical Energy Corp.).
The Organization:
Established as MASCO in 1972 to serve as stewards of the LMA, addressing critical needs such as infrastructure and area planning, access, sustainability, and emergency preparedness, the Longwood Collective (LC) continues to represent the interests of the LMA and its member organizations, which include some of the world’s leading clinical, scientific, academic and cultural institutions. Its multifaceted services include robust transportation and commuter programs supported by a fleet of 37 shuttles and 2,000+ parking spaces; a 300,000 square-foot mixed-use facility and parking garage at 375 Longwood Avenue and an award-winning child care center. As advocates for the LMA, LC is a leading voice on area planning and development, public policy and sustainability initiatives. In addition to its nonprofit charter, LC’s taxable subsidiary MASCO Services, Inc. offers cost-saving contract services (e.g., elevator maintenance) and a state-of-the-art Call Center that meets the answering service needs of clients across the city and region, including hospitals, physician practices, colleges and pharmaceutical companies.

The Vice President of Finance and Administration/CFO oversees all aspects of finance, including accounting, AP/AR, treasury, insurance, and tax and risk management, providing leadership in strategic multi-year planning, forecasting and budgeting. This critical, highly visible role also provides administrative oversight of Human Resources and Information Technology; supports the Board’s Finance, Investment, and other Governance Committees; and facilitates and nurtures strategic relationships across LC’s leadership team and LMA member organizations, ensuring a customer-focused culture committed to professional excellence, transparency and accountability.

Qualifications Summary:
BA/BS in accounting, finance or related field (MBA, MSF or related advanced degree preferred); 15+ years’ progressive experience in non-profit finance and operations, serving as an advisor to senior leaders; record of accomplishment in strategic and financial planning; knowledge of accounting practices, managerial finance, budgeting and financial analysis; superb oral/written communications and presentation skills; and, proven ability to inspire and lead a data-driven, mission-oriented, service-minded team, build strategic relationships, work and negotiate with a broad range of constituents, mediate competing interests, and lead through influence as well as through direct authority.
