Truck Driver & Warehouse Associate   

 
REPORTS TO:         Warehouse Manager
 
PART TIME:            30 hours per week, Monday-Friday; other additional hours as needed for food pick-ups.
 
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Truck Driver and Warehouse Associate drives the NIN van and/or truck to both deliver and pick up food, provides labor and support for all food pantry delivery operations, including the quality control, inventory tracking and pantry food delivery.  The warehouse supplies 10 food distribution locations weekly, as well as preparing food for mobile deliveries of groceries to approximately 80 families each week.  
 
REGULAR DUTIES:
  • Drive or support the truck/van for operation of daily Food Pantries.
  • Assist in loading and unloading NIN truck/van daily.
  • Pick up food, at donor schools, churches, farms, and corporations; deliver to warehouse.
  • Take weekly trips to the Merrimack Valley Food Bank, Greater Boston Food Bank. GBFB Enabling pick-ups at Target (Wilmington) and Stop & Shop (North Andover) and others.
  • Assist in food distribution at pantries.
  • Supervise daily volunteer teams who pack food for bagged distributions.
  • Prepare groceries for volunteers delivering food to families.
  • Weigh in and document all incoming food donations.
  • Track inventory and do physical counts as necessary to assist in food ordering.
  • Keep truck clean and operating efficiently by sweeping daily and washing weekly. 
  • Notify WH Manger of needed repairs or maintenance.
  • Follow daily Warehouse checklist to ensure policies are followed and workspace is clean, organized and maintained.
  • Answer the Warehouse phone and fill out pickup requests at needed. 
  • Undertake additional assignments at the request of supervisor.
 
INDEPENDENT ACTION:
 
Under supervision, functions within scope of Neighbors in Need policies and practices; refers specific problems to Warehouse Manager.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
 
MA Driver’s License and clean driving record required. USDOT Physical required after hire. Experience driving box trucks (16-20 feet). Must be able to routinely lift 50 pounds. Food Safety knowledge desired – if not food safety training provided onsite.  Candidate must be hands-on, detail oriented, and capable of completing tasks in a timely manner.  Comfort with Microsoft Word and Excel, and/or bilingual in English and Spanish are desirable.  Passionate about helping families with food insecurity and the local community.  Position is based out of the Neighbors in Need Lawrence Warehouse.
