Job Description

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Senior Staff Accountant will support various aspects of our financial management processes and cycles including, but not limited to, monthly close responsibilities, account analyses, grant accounting and related reporting, and ad hoc analyses. This position requires cross departmental collaboration throughout the organization; assists with the year-end annual financial audit, tax returns and other regulatory filings as needed; ensures transactions are made in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and internal polices and controls are followed.
This position will have a hybrid work arrangement with work from home 2 days per week; 3 days per week in one of the GSEMA’s offices; occasional work days in other GSEMA locations, or as directed.
Explore Key Responsibilities:
- Complete daily and monthly financial accounting entries accurately and timely.
- Accounting and reporting for federal, state, and private grants.
- Track donation revenues utilizing various software platforms, and manage reporting obligations.
- Document and account for donor restrictions with the Fund Development Team.
- Assist in the development and process re-design of grant reporting, including regulatory compliance.
- Prepare financial reports and assist with resolving departmental issues.
- Reconcile and analyze general ledger accounts.
- Support Finance team key activities/functions in backup coverage roles as needed.
- Assist with audit preparation.
- Assist with business process mapping, documentation, and standardization.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting.
- Five (5) plus years of previous accounting work experience, including grant accounting.
- Ability to effectively identify, analyze and solve problems.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
- Work independently as well as collaboratively with team members and other functional areas to further Council goals.
- Self-motivated and willing to learn new skills, processes, and software applications.
- Ability to handle high volume tasks.
- Demonstrated accuracy, thoroughness, and quality of work; excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Capacity to, independently and as part of a team, plan, organize and prioritize work, while managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to effectively identify, analyze, and solve practical problems and successfully manage a variety of variables and personalities; ability to adapt in a changing environment.
- Experience with Abilia MIP system is a plus.
- Experience with CampMinder, Salesforce, Opsuites, and Raiser’s Edge systems is a plus.
