Senior Coordinator, Volunteer Engagement
Food For Free is hiring a Senior Coordinator, Volunteer Engagement to join the development team. This role will actively recruit, educate, onboard, and support our valued volunteers to ensure that all aspects of engagement result in an exceptional experience.
The Senior Coordinator supports and develops Food for Free's volunteer engagement efforts, resulting in an exceptional experience for volunteers in programs such as Just Eats, Healthy Eats Home Delivery, and Heat-n-Eats, as well as other key Food For Free events. This position plays an important role in the organization’s growth, enhancing the experience for individuals and corporate groups who volunteer with Food For Free and the ultimate impact of our mission to improve access to healthy food and strengthen the community food system.

Responsibilities
Volunteer Recruitment
- Oversee volunteer recruitment, systems, and processes to maintain a thriving volunteer force to support Food For Free programs and marketing initiatives fully
- Work with the program team to meet and anticipate volunteer needs; securing volunteers, as needed, to fill gaps and cancellations
- Conduct virtual and in-person orientations for individuals and groups
- In collaboration with Marketing Manager, develop campaigns and engagement strategies to generate interest in Food For Free volunteer (& donor) opportunities
- Support other volunteer needs, such as the Party Under The Harvest Moon
- Recruit, organize, and train a volunteer “street team” to actively support marketing opportunities
- Ensure that an equity lens and Food For Free’s core values are infused into all communications
Volunteer Engagement
- Collaborate with Program Managers to foster a welcoming and inclusive volunteer culture and experience
- Collaborate with Volunteer Engagement Specialist to offer seamless corporate and community group experience
- Support program team and volunteers on-site regularly and as needed
- Welcome corporate & community groups, and coordinate photos and social media posts
- Create, plan, and execute a minimum of two volunteer appreciation events in collaboration with programs & marketing staff
- Gather feedback regularly through individual check-ins, surveys, and listening sessions
Systems Implementation
- Maintain volunteer database and identify areas of optimization
- Support program team and volunteers with database use for accurate data collection
- Oversee Constant Contact email distribution
- Continually refine the overall back-end systems to maintain our volunteer program
- Maintain volunteer records and report volunteer data

- Warm and professional demeanor
- Collaborative team player
- 2-3 years of relevant experience
- Familiarity with Volunteer Local, DonorPerfect, or similar CRM software
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Comfort with presenting to individuals and groups
- Must be able to work independently, use critical thinking skills, and make sound independent decisions
- Experience handling confidential materials and information with discretion

Food For Free is a Cambridge and Somerville based non-profit organization dedicated to providing Eastern Massachusetts with reliable access to fresh and nutritious food. We accomplish our mission through food rescue, partnerships with schools, colleges, and traditional food organizations, as well as our own direct service programs. In fiscal year 2022, Food For Free distributed more than 7.5 million pounds of nutritious food and reached more than 150,000 people throughout Greater Boston.

Schedule and Working Conditions
This is an exempt, full-time role that is hybrid (both in-person and remote). Will require regular attendance at both Packing and Distribution Center (Somerville) and Biogen kitchen (Cambridge). Periodic evening & weekend commitments.
The ability to lift 40 pounds and work on feet for several hours at a time is essential.
This position reports to the Manager, Corporate Engagement.
Compensation: Salary range begins at $55K
