The Program Specialist will contribute to membership engagement and retention by providing high impact program opportunities to engage Girl Scouts in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The Program Specialist is responsible for the development and delivery of level appropriate and inclusive STEM curriculum and management of the mobile STEM On-the-Go system bringing accessible STEM programming to communities across eastern Massachusetts, largely through the GSEMA Mobile STEM Van.
Explore Key Responsibilities:
- Develop STEM curriculum that is age/Girl Scout level appropriate, inclusive, outcome-based and increases girls’ understanding of and interest in STEM.
- Deliver engaging and exciting programing to all Girl Scout age levels.
- Manage STEM On-the-Go logistics to include: supply management, program site confirmation, communication with troops, management of requests, and calendar management.
- Support additional council programs and events as needed.
- Ensure that all programs and activities are consistent with GSUSA Girl Leadership Experience, GSUSA and GSEMA health, risk management and safety standards, and local, state, and federal laws/guidelines.
- Maintain confidentiality on behalf of the Girl Scout organization and in accordance with the GSEMA Comprehensive Information Security program (CISP).
- Maintain accurate records for reporting.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, STEM related field, or equivalent experience in a related field.
- Work experience in curriculum development and delivery or related field preferred.
- Experience in nontraditional education preferred.
- Passion and commitment to working with individuals of diverse backgrounds and ages, without regard to race, ethnicity/culture, religion, socioeconomic status, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation or differing abilities.
- Analytical capabilities utilizing qualitative and quantitative data, possess a metrics-focused mindset.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software; adept at utilizing social networking; experience using Salesforce or demonstrated ability to learn and become proficient with new technology.
- Strong public relations skills and ability to develop community collaborations; able to relate well to both adults and children.
- Bilingual skills are highly desirable.
- Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
- Capacity to, independently and as part of a team, plan, organize and prioritize work, while managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Must have a valid driver’s license with access to reliable transportation to perform the duties of the job.
- Requires transporting supplies to a variety of locations; ability to lift and manipulate up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Work Environment: This is a remote work position both at home and in the communities served. Will also require occasional time at designated GSEMA offices or properties as needed, both indoors and outdoors. May also involve work activities on properties, designated sites/events and community locations as needed.
