About the Hunger to Health Collaboratory
The Hunger to Health Collaboratory (H2HC) accelerates systemic solutions to food, nutrition, and health inequities by collaborating with cross-sector thought leaders; uplifting innovative models; and advancing knowledge, all through a focus on the social drivers of health. The program and communications manager reports to the H2HC executive director and works, as a member of a small team, to design and execute programmatic work and strategic communications to further H2HC’s growth and goals. H2HC is currently fiscally sponsored by Health Resources in Action (HRiA).

Position Overview
Seeking a highly organized and mission-driven program and communications manager to both lead and support programmatic and communications work for H2HC. This role requires 7–10 years of communications and strategic project management experience, including events, preferably in the nonprofit sector related to food, nutrition, and health equity issues. The successful candidate will have a strategic mindset, willingness to work as part of a small and dynamic team, and the ability to execute communications projects from concept to completion.

Salary Range
$80,000-$90,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications

Roles and Responsibilities
The program and communications manager supports the growth and evolution of H2HC and its work as directed by the executive director and operates within HRiA’s structure, policies, and procedures. The manager will: 
  • Play a key project management role in H2HC’s annual national prize-making process and annual Fall Summit (typically in Boston) to ensure excellent professional processes and outcomes 
  • Work as member of H2HC team to produce excellent events 
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy aligned with H2HC’s goals, including a social media content calendar 
  • Create content for and manage website, newsletters, reports, PowerPoint decks, social media platforms, and other content as needed 
  • Manage the creation and dissemination of branded materials and messaging for all of H2HC’s work and events, including annual social media content calendar and other deliverables (e.g., annual Summit report)
  • Collaborate with program staff, partners, and external vendors (designers, media, others) to seek out and produce content 
  • Track and report on communications metrics and adjust strategies as needed 
  • Represent H2HC at events and in all communications

    Qualifications
  • 7-10 years of professional communications and event management experience, ideally in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization 
  • Proven success managing multiple projects with consistent attention to detail
  • Experience managing digital channels (email platforms, websites, social media) 
  • Ability to work consistently and effectively both in person and remotely as part of a small team 
  • Excellent analytic, oral, writing, editing, proofreading, and storytelling skills 
  • Resourcefulness, curiosity, flexibility, and strong work ethic 
  • Strong computer skills, facility with social media, design and basic video editing tools including Canva and Constant Contact, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.), Teams, and willingness to learn new tools as needed 
  • Interest in and desire to learn about food, nutrition, and health equity issues 
  • Ability to effectively interact with a wide range of external stakeholders, including senior leaders 
  • Willingness to do whatever is needed to get the job done as part of a small team 
  • Strong project management and cross-functional coordination skills 
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, evolving environment 
Bachelor’s degree in public health, nutrition, communications, marketing, or a related field (or equivalent experience) required, Master’s degree preferred

Work Environment
  • The job is performed indoors in a hybrid model that includes both on-site and remote work
  • A minimum of two days per week on site in Boston office is required and is not negotiable; additional in-person meetings, events, and conferences will arise and may require travel
