Established in 1966, Cambridge School Volunteers unites the Cambridge community to help Cambridge Public Schools students feel seen, supported, and successful. As an independent nonprofit operating within all 16 Cambridge Public Schools, we offer free, easy-to-access tutoring, mentorship, and classroom programming. Our professional staff develops, coordinates, and evaluates our programs, enabling us to enhance the student experience without extra burden on educators. Each program aligns intentionally with District goals, leveraging longstanding organizational partnerships and over 600 engaged volunteers to respond flexibly to emerging needs. These dedicated volunteers show up with enthusiasm and joy, honoring students’ identities and building genuine relationships that create a safe space for learning. By harnessing the power of our diverse, innovation city, we enrich the lives of all involved, building a stronger community and inspiring every student to reach their fullest potential.
Job Responsibilities and Compensation
Working with the CSV’s Director of High School Programs, the Program and Administrative Assistant will support the Tutoring Center, the College & Career Mentoring Program, and Classroom Collaborators at CRLS. The role includes, but is not limited to, sending and responding to emails from students and volunteers, matching pairs for tutoring or mentoring, assisting with volunteer recruitment, and processing volunteer CORIs. Seasonal administrative tasks like supporting our November annual appeal, formatting and printing thank you letters, and tasks related to our April volunteer appreciation event will be under the direction of CSV’s Executive Director. There will also be opportunities to assist with other CSV programs like Reading Buddies, NetPals, and KeyPals. There will be occasional evening and weekend responsibilities.
CSV’s offices are in the Cambridge Rindge & Latin School, and work primarily takes place at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, with occasional program and event support in other locations in Cambridge.
The position is part-time, 20 hours per week, from September to June, during the 42 weeks of the Cambridge Public Schools academic calendar. CSV’s offices are closed during Cambridge Public School vacations and holidays. CSV’s operating hours are between 8 am and 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
Hourly rate of pay is $29. Benefits include a 3% SIMPLE IRA contribution and individual health insurance coverage, prorated at 50%. Start date is September 2, 2025.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college, university, or equivalent professional experience
- Strong organizational and administration skills
- Excellent digital and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with adults and children from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Capacity to independently and creatively manage diverse responsibilities in a multi-faceted, expanding organization
- Competency with Google Workspace or willingness to learn is essential
- Experience with eTapestry is a plus
