Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts (GSEMA) has an opening for a PAYROLL SPECIALIST. This hourly, non-exempt position will report to GSEMA’s Controller.
Work Environment: This is a full-time, hybrid position. Current hybrid work arrangement with work from home 2 days per week; 3 days per week in GSEMA's Andover office; occasional travel and work days in GSEMA’s Waltham office, or as directed.
As a Payroll Specialist, you will:
- Have a primary focus on processing bi-weekly payroll, ensuring employees are paid accurately and timely with correct withholding taxes and deductions.
- Have other payroll responsibilities to include accounting entries, preparing taxes and deductions, maintaining payroll records and preparing reports for management.
- Communicate payroll deductions to retirement plan administrator for 403(b) plan and other pre-tax or after-tax savings plans.
- Communicate with employees regarding escalated complex payroll and time and attendance inquiries/issues and work to resolve in a timely manner.
- Have additional focus on performing financial department activities, including accounting, financial analysis and audit prep, while ensuring compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Perform accurate and timely completion of certain daily accounting functions utilizing an integrated accounting system (e.g. accounts payable processing, general ledger journal entries, etc.).
- Perform reconciliations of general ledger accounts, analyze and investigate discrepancies to ensure accurate recording and reporting.
Here is what you will need to be successful in this role:
- Five years of previous payroll work experience; familiarity using ADP Workforce Now is preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of accounting experience. Accounting courses completed at the undergraduate /college level is preferred.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Windows and Office (Excel, Word).
- Self-motivated and willing to learn new skills, processes and software applications.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Possess high attention to detail; demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness; ensures quality of work.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing.
- Ability to handle high volume tasks (e.g., computer data entry).
