About the Salem Pantry
The Salem Pantry (TSP) works collaboratively to empower our diverse local and regional communities by ensuring the essential right to convenient and reliable access to healthy food. As an organization, TSP is currently in a strategic growth phase, working to address the chronic need for food in Salem and the North Shore. TSP is building its first storefront pantry location and is excited to welcome the new position of Pantry Store Manager to our team.

The Position
The Salem Pantry is seeking a Pantry Store Manager to lead the opening and operation of our new brick-and-mortar storefront location, which will serve as TSP’s primary distribution location. This position reports to the Director of Programs and Partnerships. The Pantry Store manager will be responsible for the overall supervision of the storefront, collaborating with other TSP staff and supervising a volunteer team to support daily operations. The Pantry Store Manager will develop and implement store operating procedures, with the goal of maintaining a clean, friendly, well-stocked store that provides a dignified shopping experience for TSP pantry guests. There will be additional clerical and program responsibilities, as needed, to support the mission and goals of the organization. This is a full-time, salary position and the weekly schedule may adjust periodically to align with any shifts in TSP’s programming.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the day-to-day store operations and overall performance.
  • In coordination with the Food Acquisition and Distribution Manager, maintain inventory of all food items received, in stock, and distributed.
  • Lead store volunteer program, in coordination with the Manager of Volunteer and Pantry Services.
  • Ensure all food items are maintained in accordance with food safety regulations.
  • Register new Pantry guests and offer additional guest services provided by TSP.
  • In coordination with the Director of Programs and Partnerships, assess store operations and programs, and develop SMART goals for implementation.
  • Collaborate with partner organizations to provide the widest array of healthy food options and services supporting healthy diet choices.

Qualifications 
  • The qualified candidate will:
  • Preferably be bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Have demonstrated the ability to be well-organized, work independently and within a team, with the proven ability to multitask, set work priorities, track projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Have proven interpersonal skills including excellent listening, public speaking, oral, and written communications skills.
  • Have three to five years of experience in grocery or retail management with the ability to integrate best business management practices with our nonprofit organization's mission and guiding principles.
  • Possess significant technological proficiency, including inventory management software and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Demonstrate proven capacity to work in a multicultural workforce, including sensitivity and competence in working with individuals and groups of diverse racial, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Exhibit personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to and passion for The Salem Pantry mission.
  • Have the ability to lift and transport up to 50 pounds.
  • Have access to a car (mileage reimbursement included).

The ideal candidate will also:
  • Show experience in managing a volunteer workforce.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of fresh produce and systems promoting healthy food options.

Compensation
The Pantry Storefront Manager is a full-time position with a salary range of $52,000 and $57,000 and is commensurate with experience. (Benefits include healthcare reimbursement, 401(k) plan with organizational match & paid time off policy).
