About RICARES -

RICARES is a non-profit run by people in recovery and our allies. Our mission is to create a socially just community for all Rhode Islanders impacted by substance use disorder. RICARES supports and celebrates all pathways of recovery. We work at the intersection of recovery, trauma, and social justice.

Since 1996, RICARES has expanded access to recovery from substance use disorders. Our programs span four community needs: (1) peer recovery services, which include distribution of harm reduction materials; (2) recovery house certification; (3) state and local advocacy; and (4) community education.

RICARES has over two decades of experience working in the areas of addiction, prevention, and recovery. We have positioned ourselves as one of the primary brokers of recovery capital in RI. Recovery capital is a technical term that defines the resources required to initiate and sustain recovery. It includes measures of personal purpose, access to transportation, psychological wellness, physical safety, stable housing, community support, and professional development.

RICARES is a Recovery Friendly Workplace. We prioritize hiring people with lived experiences of substance use and/or mental health disorders. Our diverse and inclusive team has a wide range of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. People of color, women, people with disabilities, lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, transgender, gender-nonconforming, and formerly incarcerated individuals are strongly encouraged to apply.
