Summary: Greater Boston PFLAG is a non-profit organization of parents, families, friends, and LGBTQ+ individuals who work to help change attitudes and create an environment of understanding so that our LGBTQ+ family members and friends can live in a world that is safe and inclusive. We accomplish this through support, education, and advocacy by offering: monthly support groups, a confidential resource line, parent-to-parent support, school programs that involve teacher and student training, community programs for businesses and other organizations. GBPFLAG is headquartered in Waltham, MA. As a result of COVID-19, GBPFLAG staff are working fully remote. GBPFLAG is expecting a hybrid return to office approach with a target of spring 2022. Preferably, candidates will be based in the Boston Metro area; candidates in New England will be considered.

Summary of Role:
Through partnership with support group facilitators, helpline volunteers, parents, caregivers, and loved ones of LGBTQ+ individuals, the Community Support Manager will play an integral role in helping GBPFLAG achieve its mission by providing support, education, advocacy, and resources to parents, caregivers and loved ones of lgbtq+ individuals to create a safer and more inclusive world.  Salary: $55,000/year: Plus Medical/Dental/Vision Coverage, SimpleIRA, Generous Paid Time Off , & Professional Development funds

Areas of Responsibility:
  • Serve as the main point of contact and support for our Volunteers, Parents & Caregivers 
  • Respond to volunteer needs to ensure volunteers have the support and resources necessary to facilitate support groups, respond to helpline requests, as well as engage in education and advocacy in their communities
  • Oversee training and educational opportunities for volunteers to continue to learn and grow to best support the needs of our parents, caregivers, and loved ones
  • Partner with volunteers to identify needs for and establishment of new Support Groups
  • Lead and engage in volunteer enrichment and appreciation activities and events
  • Conduct outreach and engagement to onboard new volunteers through current and new channels
  • Manage volunteer informational  systems and maintain current and accurate records
  • Partner with GBPFLAG Communications Manager to distribute monthly volunteer outreach newsletter
  • Support volunteer program opportunities introduced through corporate program relationships
  • Manage and support the volunteer email accounts and respond to inquiries on a timely basis
  • Assist in engaging volunteers for help at special events, conferences, and other community activities

  • Academic and/or experience working in any one of the following: business, communications, journalism, public relations, hospitality management, or recreation
  • Volunteer and/or membership management, with a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience is required
  • Communications skills, experience in internal and external communications, including newsletters, training content creation, and project planning
  • Experience with database systems, Salesforce, Strong demonstrated use of Excel, Word, PowerPoint
