Job Description
We seek in our Interim Executive Director a leader who will maintain stability during a time of significant transition. Our Interim Executive Director will (1) optimize Rowe’s operations; and (2) lead a development strategy that will support Rowe’s mission, programs, and operations in the short and long term. The Interim Executive Director is the primary steward for the mind, body, and spirit of Rowe and is answerable to the Board of Trustees for its welfare.
Board Relations
- Reports to and communicates regularly with the Board of Trustees President and key committee leaders.
- Supports the Board in the hiring of a permanent Executive Director
- Provides consultation to key members of the Board to enable them to make sound decisions and policies.
- Upholds Rowe’s policies and procedures as directed by the Board of Trustees.
- Maintains collegial relationships with members of the Board of Trustees.
- Attends Board of Trustees meetings and retreats and presents the Executive Director’s report as well as other pertinent reports.
- Serves on ad hoc committees as appropriate.
Direct Supervisory Responsibility
- Oversees all Managers and Directors in the organization.
Human Resource Responsibilities
- Oversees the recruitment, selection, and development of all staff members under the supervision of the Board of Directors.
- Ensures that effective human resource systems are in place and adhered to, including personnel policies, compensation, performance management and feedback, and staff training. Ensures compliance with applicable Federal, state, and local standards.
- Consults with the chair of the Board’s Personnel Committee to accomplish these goals.
Financial Responsibilities
- Ensures that the organization’s financial management is carried out in a fiscally responsible manner and that it is in line with budget philosophies and projections.
- Consults with the chair of the Board’s Finance Committee to accomplish these goals.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state and federal financial reporting mandates.
Development Responsibilities
- Ensures that effective fundraising plans are implemented throughout the year.
- Cultivates personal relationships with major donors, which includes inviting them to appropriate organizational activities and maintaining positive contact through social invitations, visits, letters, and telephone calls.
- Assumes responsibility for fundraising materials for all campaigns, Rowe publications, and donor recognition materials.
- Assumes responsibility for budget, income, and expenses related to development activities.
Promotion and Public Relations
- Represents Rowe and all of its entities to financial institutions, constituencies, members, donors, allied organizations, grantors, the Unitarian Universalist Association, guests, and the public at large.
Qualifications and Experience
Skills Required: Development experience, good communication and decision-making skills, strong organizational skills, ability to work well with people, attention to detail and ability to prioritize and handle many projects at one time, experience with Google Workspace is essential.
Work Experience and Education Required: Minimum of 5 years’ management experience in the non-profit sector including financial responsibilities, Bachelor’s degree required
Work Experience and Education Preferred: Master’s degree preferred
