Job Description

Southeast Center for Independent Living (SCIL) is a non-profit organization that serves individuals with disabilities in the Greater Fall River and New Bedford areas.  We provide skills training, advocacy, information and referrals, transition and prevention services, and peer counseling to individuals who wish to become more independent in their lives.

Position:  Information and Referral (I&R) Coordinator

Description: SCIL seeks a highly motivated and compassionate individual to assist with the day-to-day operations of running our front desk and all its operations. SCIL staff shall have respect and understanding of disability issues and the independent living philosophy. Consumers we serve have physical, behavioral health, cognitive, visual, hearing, or sensory impairments for whom IL services will improve their ability to function and live independently within the community. 

Duties/Responsibilities

·         Answer phones, reroute calls to appropriate staff and greet consumers.
·         Assist in filing duties such as maintaining and updating consumer records and forms.
·         Assist with operating office machines, such as photocopiers and scanners, facsimile machines, voice mail systems and personal computers.
·         Retrieve files for personnel and assist with maintaining consumer records.
·         Sort and distribute incoming mail and packages.
·         Perform data entry.
·         Assist in taking Information & Referrals (I&R’s) in person, emails, on-line or over the phone and enter in computer database.
·         Prescreen I&R Referrals.
·         Keeping track of housing referrals and assist with quarterly housing workshop report.
·         Prepare intake packets for new referrals.
·         Ensure MiCIL (database) records correspond with hard files.
·         Other duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications
·         Ability to work sensitively with diverse populations
·         Strong communication skills both verbal and written
·         Ability to ensure the confidentiality of consumers
·         Must be computer literate
·         Self-motivated, good organizational and interpersonal skills, detail-oriented, ability to multitask and prioritize
·         Ability to work independently and as part of a team
·         Must have reliable transportation
