Title: Human Resources Manager
Type of Position: Full-time, exempt
Reports to:  Director of Finance & Administration
 
Summary
The Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy, the non-profit responsible for the management and care of The Greenway, seeks a highly motivated, engaging, and experienced Human Resources generalist to join our team as our Human Resources Manager.  This important position will play a vital role in the continuing development of The Greenway’s employees and culture, across the organization.

The Human Resources Manager is a critical member of the Finance and Administration team, helping to support the Conservancy’s work in all areas of the organization. The HR Manager embraces the organization’s commitment to transparency, excellence, and innovation while supporting the continued growth of the organization as a whole. Charged with maintaining the HR function,  contributing to a productive and engaged workforce, the HR Manager supports approximately 40-50 employees - including full time and seasonal employees.  Specific areas of focus include hiring, benefits administration, compensation, compliance, training, recognition and retention, and problem resolution.

Responsibilities: 
Payroll and Benefits
  • Administer payroll, taking responsibility for bi-weekly adjustments related to employment and benefits changes, vacation, and sick accruals.
  • Manage  benefits enrollment and ongoing updates, billing and recording. 
  • Monitor organization benefits and compensation with the goal of attracting and retaining high-performing individuals. 
  • Oversee the annual benefits renewal and all correspondence with our benefits broker.
  • Manage the employee leave of absence process, as needed.
 
 
Recruitment, Onboarding and Offboarding
  • Assist hiring managers with the recruitment of a diverse staff, providing support as needed to hiring managers on job descriptions, recruiting strategies, interviewing, reference checking, finalizing terms of employment, and the job offer process.
  • Work with Directors and Hiring Managers to define departmental and organizational needs and structure, resulting in an appropriate staffing structure that is able to adapt as the organization grows.
  • Provide support to directors in developing and updating job descriptions for staff
  • Manage the new-hire onboarding process, including organizational orientation and enrollment paperwork. 
  • Oversee offboarding, including logistics and exit interviews, gathering and forwarding feedback. 
 
Compliance
  • Work with outside counsel and receive regular updates in order to keep abreast of federal, state and local regulations, including those related to COVID-19, and ensure the organizational adherence to and implementation of all relevant employment laws. 
  • Ensure the flow of timely and helpful information to staff about policies, procedures, benefits, and related organizational and federally/state mandated matters.
  • Maintain all personnel files, ensuring their completeness and compliance with HIPAA and ADA confidentiality guidelines. 
  • Oversee the creation, revision and maintenance of Greenway policies, ensuring fairness, compliance, and engagement.
  • Track and analyze helpful HR metrics, including staff turnover, diversity, effective recruitment sources, employee satisfaction, etc. 
 
Employee Culture and Engagement
  • Ensure the organization promotes an open and supportive culture focused on employee engagement, well-being, diversity and inclusion, transparency, and work/life balance.
  • Work with staff and outside consultants to incorporate The Greenway’s commitment to diversity and inclusion into all aspects of our day-to-day operations.
  • Oversee and manage our staff evaluation process, monitoring effectiveness, developing new processes as warranted.
  • Create and implement new ways of engaging employees through training, employee events, brown bags, etc.
 
Qualifications
  • Experience 
    • Minimum of five (5) years’ progressively responsible human resources experience at a managerial level, preferably in a small nonprofit. 
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management or a Bachelor’s degree with relevant HR experience 
    • Experience working in a diverse environment and/or on DEI initiatives 
    • Knowledge of human resources policies and legislation such as ADA. FMLA, etc. 
  • Demonstrated skills 
    • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills. 
    • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution capabilities. 
  • Ability to apply laws, rules, regulations and standards to working situations 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage delegated tasks effectively
  • Analytical and computer skills to create meaningful data reports. 
  • Results-focused. Detail-oriented. Positive attitude. Calm under pressure.

Logistics
  • This is a full-time (40 hours per week) position with full benefits
  • Work hours are generally Monday through Friday, but flexibility is required to accommodate occasional evening work
  • Work will primarily take place indoor in the office, but will occasionally require some time on The Greenway
