Found in Translation
was founded in 2011 in order to create opportunity at the intersection of two social problems: health access disparities and economic inequality across race, gender, and ethnicity. Through education and supportive services, we connect top talent in low-income communities with well-paying jobs in one of the fastest-growing fields in the US. Our Medical Interpreter Certificate training and job placement program supports our two-fold mission:

  • To give low-income bilingual women an opportunity to achieve economic security through the use of their language skills
  • To unleash bilingual talent into the workforce to fight racial, ethnic, and linguistic disparities in health care


Summary


Found in Translation is seeking an experienced grant writer to meet the organization’s foundation, corporate, and government grants annual revenue targets. Under the guidance of the Grants Manager (and in partnership with an existing Grant Writer), the Grant Writer will focus on proposal writing and research activities to generate grant funding from private, community, and family foundations as well as corporate and government grant funders. In a given year, grants are responsible for ~70% of our overall operating budget, which is approximately $2M and growing. 


This is a part-time, remote, contract position. The position requires 10-20 hours per week, with the opportunity for added hours in the future.


Responsibilities include:

  • Draft compelling, well-researched, and tailored proposals and other grant related deliverables in compliance with grantor guidelines and deadlines in a voice that reflects Found in Translation’s mission, programs and goals.  Works in partnership with grants team and other staff as necessary.

  • Utilize feedback and research to continuously improve the quality of proposals

  • Conduct ongoing prospect research and initial funder outreach to support growth of grants pipeline


Skills and Qualifications:


Required: 

  • 2+ years of foundation proposal writing experience, with a track record of success 
  • Excellent writing skills, organizational skills and attention to detail
  • B.A. degree or comparable professional experience
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and effectively prioritize while working collaboratively
  • Flexibility in meeting deadlines and adjusting to changing priorities
  • A genuine resonance with and commitment to our mission
  • Comfort with GSuite and Microsoft Office


Preferred:

  • Foundation prospecting and stewarding experience
  • Experience incorporating data into funder-tailored, compelling narrative
  • Familiarity with the Greater Boston funding community and beyond
  • Familiarity with corporate and/or government grantseeking 
  • Familiarity with Salesforce and/or other grants management databases
  • Experience in any of the following areas: workforce development, economic mobility, women’s empowerment, immigrants and refugees, or medical interpreting 

Compensation 
Part time contract role at 10-20 h/w, with an hourly range of $40-$45/hr
