Job Description
The Grants Writer is responsible for researching, drafting, and submitting proposals to secure funding from various grant-making entities such as foundations, corporations, and government agencies. This role is crucial in helping AFTDJ achieve its mission by obtaining the necessary financial support to sustain and expand its programs and initiatives. The Grants Writer will work directly with the Director of Advancement and the Grant Research and Application Coordinator.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Proposal Writing:
· Research and collect data to support the grant application.
· Write compelling and persuasive grant proposal narratives that effectively communicate the mission, programs, and needs of AFTDJ.
· Tailor each proposal to meet the specific guidelines and priorities of each funder.
· Develop budgets and financial plans to accompany grant proposals.
· Manage the proposal submission process for the timely submission of required materials
2. Collaboration:
· Work closely with program directors, the Director of Advancement, and the Grant Research and other staff to gather accurate and relevant information for proposals.
· Collaborate with the finance team to ensure the financial accuracy of proposals.
· Coordinate with external partners or collaborators when necessary.
3. Capacity Building:
· Stay informed about trends and best practices in grant writing and fundraising.
· Attend relevant workshops, conferences, and training sessions.
· Share knowledge and provide training or support to other staff members as needed.
Skills and Qualifications:
· Strong research and analytical skills.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Proficiency in using databases, spreadsheets, and project management tools.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Time Commitment:
Flexible, with an estimated commitment of 4 to 6 hours per week, depending on experience a the number of active grant opportunities.
