The Farm Stand Manager is responsible for all aspects of farm stand operations, including but not limited to promotion, product coordination, set up/breakdown, display, pricing, sales, reporting and farm stand coverage. This is a part-time, seasonal position, 24 hours per week from May - November.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Manage weekly farm stand: create and implement promotion plan for local community (social media, mailers/marketing, flyers, posters); coordinate weekly products/quantities.
- Responsible for setup, pricing, merchandizing/display, payment, sales tracking sales/reporting/patterns, breakdown/cleanup.
- Coordinate the order, purchase, tracking and delivery of fruit and produce.
- Ensure market-related paperwork is filed and the farm stand is being run in accordance with regulations.
- Participate in Farmer Training workshops and support trainees and volunteers as needed for the Farmer Training Program.
- Participate in weekly meetings and provide updates on farm stand operations.
- Support Farm Team as needed with production, including site cleanup, harvest, produce preparation in addition to all tasks related to farm operations, such as mulching, weeding, irrigation, bed preparation and winterization.
- Attends staff meetings and training sessions.
- Complies with proper paperwork procedures, prompt follow-up communications and organizational policies.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Must have prior experience with farm stand, farmers market, or comparable experience such as retail or customer service in an urban setting.
- Must have a valid driver's license, satisfactory driving record, and be willing to drive deliveries as needed for Farm Team including driving 15 passenger van.
- Must have an interest in urban farming.
- Must be available to work 24 hours per week from May through the end of November.
- Must be physically able to lift 50 pounds and work outside for long periods in hot, cold, and rainy weather.
- Must be willing to complete a variety of on-farm tasks in additional to farm stand responsibilities.
- Must be able to work independently and as the member of a team;
- Resident of or familiar with locations of our farms - Dorchester, Mattapan or Roxbury is preferred.
- A graduate of the UFI Urban Farmer Training course or similar urban farmer training program is preferred.
- Should be comfortable interacting with many different people including market customers, volunteers of all ages, neighbors and community members.
