About Horizons
Horizons for Homeless Children (Horizons) is a local non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of young homeless children in Massachusetts and helping their families succeed by providing high-quality early education, opportunities for play, and comprehensive family support services.
What you'll do
The Family Navigator will build a strategy and engage families in a needs assessment process to define resources that families need that we can provide by bringing those resources into the Horizons space. At Horizons, our Family Advocates currently provide families with resource support across the city. The current need is to expand the services we provide our families on-site with the help of this new position. We are looking forward to welcoming an onsite Family Health Clinic and the success of this new initiative would benefit from having a Health Care Coordinator to partner with the Clinic. We will also have increased community space in our new building and are looking forward to supporting our families on a deeper level by providing on-site access to various support services as well as training and development opportunities to help our families thrive. The Family Navigator will report directly to the Executive Director of Community Children's Center and Family Partnership Program.
Where and when you'll work
This is a 40-hour, full-time position that's exempt from overtime. This is a grant-funded position that will be renewed annually based on funding. You can expect to work regularly Monday through Friday during regular business hours, with occasional evening or weekend events with advanced notice. The center is Edgerley Family Horizons Center at 1785 Columbus Ave, Roxbury, MA.
More details about your responsibilities
- Develop and run an orientation program for all current families, introducing them to the Family Health Clinic and available services and resources.
- Distribute and collect all documentation needed for access.
- Meet 2x per month with Executive Director and Health Clinic team to reflect on what is working and where there are opportunities for improvement.
- Create and promote on-site programs and resources that are valuable to our families.
What you'll bring
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Services or related field a plus
- Experience providing case management; knowledge of Boston area resources a plus
- Experience working with homeless and/or at-risk families
- Proficient computer skills and experience with Microsoft Suite and accurate data entry
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Fluency in English (verbal and written) required, bilingual in Spanish, Haitian Creole, or other languages a plus
- Ability to assist families with required paperwork and submit and meet due dates
- Ability to plan, market and implement on site programs that will benefit the families
- Commitment to a strength-based, culturally competent, collaborative approach to working with families and colleagues
- Compassionate and effective communication skills; can distill complex information clearly with a human-centered approach.
