Job Description

Dharma Voyage (www.dharmavoyage.org) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization centered in the coastal town of Westport, MA. We offer educational programs to increase physical health and skills, stimulate the mind, connect to nature and enhance overall wellbeing.  We focus on offering long-term programs for small to moderate sized groups to allow for individual attention and the opportunity to progress from year to year.  Dharma Voyage has strong, committed and talented volunteers amongst its members.

Dharma Voyage serves a wide age range, with participants from sixth grade through senior citizens.  For adults, we offer fee-based programs in Tai Chi, Community Rowing and Rowing Racing. For youth, we offer rowing and boatbuilding courses at low to no cost.   

Dharma Voyage is seeking a full time Executive Director to guide and enhance our programming and inspire our participants and volunteers to deepen their involvement.  You will be the leader of a committed and enthusiastic membership and head an organization with a growing presence in Westport and environs.  

Job Description:
The Executive Director reports to and collaborates with the Board of Directors and is dedicated to advancing Dharma Voyage’s overall mission. The Executive Director provides vision and implements a strategic direction while overseeing the organization’s day-to-day operations. 

Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management
  • Works with Board of Directors to fulfill organization’s mission
  • Establishes strategy with the Board of Directors and oversees its implementation 
  • Oversees  each of the organization’s committees and their programs
  • Networks with other organizations to share resources, facilitate recruiting and develop new opportunities
  • Establishes and nurtures relationships with financial supporters, political and community leaders
  • Develops proposals for new direction and growth
  • Manages and develops staff
  • Manages and cultivates volunteer committees and volunteer efforts
  • Creates an inclusive culture for all members

Financial Oversight and Development
  • Working with the Board, develops and manages annual budget and monthly financial statements to ensure fiscal integrity and stability
  • Responsible for fundraising efforts and development of DV resources
  • Initiates grant research and writing

Operations 
  • Responsible for day-to-day operational decision-making
  • Oversees maintenance of DV equipment and ensures that all is in good working order
  • Responsible for signing all notes, agreements and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of Dharma Voyage
  • Coordinates and monitors special programs and events
  • Establishes and monitors program schedules in coordination with program leaders; manages overall organization calendar
  • Reviews, negotiates and approves contracts for services

Marketing and Outreach
  • Working with the Board of Directors, develops a clear Dharma Voyage identity message, synthesizing all program areas
  • Responsible for establishing and implementing marketing/communications plan for the organization
  • Serves as Dharma Voyage’s primary spokesperson to the organization’s constituents, state and local governments, donors and sponsors, and the media and the community at large
  • Develops community relations to create awareness and build image
  • Responsible for creative oversight of website and other social media content
  • Promotes DV programs with schools/organizations and builds community support

Qualifications:
  • Demonstration of transparent and high integrity leadership
  • Nonprofit management experience
  • Proven track record in leadership and relationship management 
  • Strong fundraising, marketing, public relations experience with ability to network with potential financial supporters
  • Solid, hands-on budget management skills, including budget development, analysis, management, decision-making and reporting
  • Fiscal management skills and familiarity with fiscal software programs, e.g. QuickBooks
  • Computer literacy with office management software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to take on a wide variety of tasks
  • Ability to work from home

Compensation:
This is a full-time position and can start immediately. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
