Job Description

Reports To: Board of Directors
FLSA Status: Exempt, Full-time; some evening and weekend work required at some points in the year. Schedule flexible.
Location: Hybrid model.  StageSource has co-working/meeting space in the Fort Point area of Boston, but staff is mostly working remotely at present.
Salary and Benefits: $75,000/year, plus health and dental insurance paid at 60%, and 401K plan with match up to 6% of salary. Flexible work hours. Open vacation time in addition to company holidays, winter holiday week closure, and sick time.
Desired Start Date: December 2022 or January 2023
StageSource is a Boston-based nonprofit arts service organization that provides leadership and resources to advance theater in the New England region. Established in 1986, StageSource currently serves nearly 2,000 theater artists and administrators and some 200 performing arts companies (theater, film, educational, casting) throughout Massachusetts and New England. Activities of the organization fall into two categories: Workforce development (initiatives aimed at providing job opportunities and career development for theater professionals, such as
auditions, job postings, professional development programs) and Sector improvement (initiatives aimed at strengthening the theater sector in New England.) More information can be found on our website at www.stagesource.org.

Principal Responsibilities
The Executive Director reports to a 17-member Board of Directors, supervises up to two full-time equivalent staff members, plus contractors, some part-timers, interns, and volunteers. The ED manages a budget of approximately $300,000 per year. 

  • With the Board of Directors, review and update strategic plan, and develop and implement plans and budgets with one- and two-year priorities. 
  • Lead fundraising efforts to provide financial stability/flexibility and build community support. 
  • Ensure that programmatic, operational, and financial goals are met. 
  • Manage the staff and ensure that they have the resources to do their jobs; monitor progress in all areas and take corrective action when necessary.
  • Serve as the face of the organization, maintaining relationships with theater organization leaders, press and public officials, prospective donors, and other relevant external constituencies. 
  • Reinforce StageSource brand and visibility, and continually monitor member needs and  satisfaction. 
  • Keep up with trends and developments in the theater community locally and nationally and Identify new opportunities to enhance programs and build revenues. 
  • Oversee the successful execution of special initiatives that StageSource can uniquely provide to enhance its mission and serve its membership. Current and recent initiatives include AntiRacism Initiative; Gender Explosion; Line Drawn Sexual Harassment training programs and policies; A11Y (Accessibility) Initiative; New England New Play Alliance; Resource/performance space needs of fringe/small theater companies; and Gender Parity.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of five years professional experience in managing a non-profit organization, preferably in theater or other performing arts. College degree is a plus, but not essential.
  • Familiarity with Massachusetts/New England theater landscape.
  • Proven leadership experience in meeting goals and targets, and supervising/coaching staff. Strong time management, project management, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including ability to present StageSource to external constituencies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to build and cultivate relationships with people throughout the community.
  • Strong collaborative team player, able to work independently and as a self-starter in a dynamic, results-oriented, and entrepreneurial environment.
  • Passion for StageSource mission and values.
