The Family Pantry of Cape Cod seeks a dynamic, experienced, and community-minded Executive Director to lead the largest food pantry on Cape Cod and advance its mission to provide food and clothing to all in need on Cape Cod.
About The Family Pantry of Cape Cod
Based in Harwich, Massachusetts, The Family Pantry of Cape Cod has provided food and clothing to all in need since 1989. Operating with a paid staff of 12 and more than 650 dedicated volunteers, the organization distributed more than 3.4M meals in 2025, serves over 3,200 households each month, and operates with an annual budget exceeding $4 million. The Pantry also serves as the regional distribution center for 17 pantries including Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard for The Greater Boston Food Bank.
In addition to its Harwich food distribution facility, The Family Pantry has a 9000 sq. ft. garden onsite to grow fresh produce, a mobile pantry that distributes bags of food across the Lower Cape, an offsite location at Cape Cod Community College, and operates a highly successful retail thrift store, Second Glance, in Harwich. Through these programs and partnerships, the organization works to ensure that individuals and families across Cape Cod have access to essential resources and are proud that they never have to turn people away who come to them for assistance.

About the Position
The Executive Director (ED) will provide overall strategic and operational leadership for The Family Pantry of Cape Cod and its thrift store, Second Glance. Reporting to the Chair of the Board of Directors, the ED will oversee staff, volunteers, programs, and annual objectives while ensuring the successful execution of the organization’s mission.
The Executive Director will supervise all paid staff and work closely with volunteers, board leadership, and community partners. This individual will manage organizational operations, guide fundraising efforts, oversee financial stewardship, and represent The Family Pantry in the community.
The ED will work in partnership with the Board of Directors and key committees to develop fundraising strategies, maintain financial accountability, and support the long-term sustainability and growth of the organization.
The ED will also be an integral member of the Board of Directors Long-Term Planning Committee, which is focused on growing the scope of the services beyond its current footprint. This is a critical initiative of the Pantry, for which the ED will be responsible for both input and implementation of the long‑term plan.

Key Responsibilities
Organizational Leadership & Operations
• Provide strategic and operational leadership for The Family Pantry and its thrift store, Second Glance.
• Supervise all paid staff and support volunteer recruitment and retention.
• Work with the Warehouse Manager on cost-effective food acquisition and with the Thrift Store Manager to maximize revenue generation.
• Oversee compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
• Manage revenue and expenses to meet budget targets.
Fundraising & Financial Management
• Work with the Board of Directors and Finance Committee to develop, recommend, and implement fundraising activities and programs.
• Identify new grant opportunities and prepare grant proposals for new and existing funding sources and provide stewardship reports.
• Partner with the Board on identifying, engaging and soliciting individual donors.
• Work with the Finance Committee to develop the annual budget.
• Compile documentation for the annual audit and ensure that appropriate financial checks and balances are in place.
Board Relations & Governance
• Establish and maintain a strong partnership with the Board of Directors.
• Attend Board meetings, provide regular updates, and participate in key committee meetings.
Mission Growth
• Work directly with the Long-Term Strategic Planning Committee to determine growth opportunities that are consistent with the mission of the Family Pantry.
• The focus of this work will be exclusively on Cape Cod.
Community Engagement & Partnerships
• Serve as the official spokesperson for The Family Pantry.
• Represent the organization with the press, community groups, and partner organizations.
• Maintain strong relationships with other community agencies.
• Serve in key roles with organizations including The Cape Cod Hunger Network and The Greater Boston
• Food Bank Agency Advisory Council.
Key Qualifications
• Minimum of 5+ years of related executive or management-level experience, including operations, budget management, fundraising, organizational planning, and staff management.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and QuickBooks.
• Strong sense of community.
• Experience with community relations and an understanding of fundraising principles and processes preferred.
• Nonprofit experience and food pantry experience desired.
• Professional experience related to the growth of facilities or organizational capabilities.
• Must live on Cape Cod or within 15 miles off Cape Cod.
• Full-time, year-round position.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $125,000 - $140,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
