Job Description
CMCB is eager to welcome a third full-time staff member to the finance & operations team! This new role is an excellent mid-career position for candidates with interest in the arts, education, and fundraising sectors who have strong finance skills, and the ability to manage multiple streams of work. The Director of Finance & Operations will work closely with senior members of the organization on a range of projects, spanning analysis, budgeting, expense tracking, and vendor management to name a few. While previous experience in nonprofit finance or accounting is a plus, any candidate with attention to detail, good communication skills, strong critical thinking, and a willingness to learn could thrive in this role. Roles & Responsibilities
Financial and Budget Management
- Support month-end and year-end close process
- Manage monthly reconciliation schedules such as, but not limited to, fixed asset and accrued liabilities ledgers
- Improve and document business processes and accounting policies
- Manage account payables and receivables
- Support CFOO in creation of accurate and timely financial reports
- Perform various analysis on specific General Ledger accounts and budget to actual reports.
- Collaborate with staff and support the CFOO in a comprehensive annual budgeting process
- Support annual audit process with independent auditors and prepare documentation and schedules
- Direct cash management analysis and forecasting as well as project-based and departmental accounting
Operations
- Create standardized procedures for operational processes as needed
- Develop IT policies, procedures, and best practices
- Manage organizational risk and compliance
- Ensure that facility and utilities are operational, maintained, and compliant with local, state, and federal guidelines
Team Management
- Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement
- Manage the Financial and Operations Associate and Bookkeeper positions
Qualifications
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or other equivalent professional experience is required
- Minimum of five years experience working in a financial or accounting role
- Minimum of three years supervisory / management experience
- Knowledge and/or understanding in non-profit financial management and/or accounting and reporting
- Knowledge and experience with technology assessment planning and implementation
- Understanding of information security, technical support, and database and data storage administration
- Must be organized, detail-oriented, and have strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to build and foster strong cross-functional relationships, internally and externally
- Must possess strong critical thinking skills with the ability to effectively prioritize.
- Proven ability to work in an evolving organization and make informed decisions in the context of strategic organizational goals and policies
- Ability to handle confidential materials with discretion
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel), CMR’s, Google Suite, and accounting/financial software (QuickBooks)
- Must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S as CMCB is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time
Preferred
- Experience in payroll software (Insperity, ADP, etc)
- Experience in non-profit financial management and/or accounting and reporting
- Fluency in Spanish, French Creole, and/or Chinese (Mandarin/Cantonese) is highly desirable
- General knowledge of and/or experience in music, the arts, education and public school settings
Physical Demands
The duties of this position are performed indoors in a business/office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate during active programming hours and minimal otherwise. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to remain in a stationary position 50-75% of the time. They will need to constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery as well as occasionally position themselves to maintain and inspect technology, including under the desks and in the server closet. The person in this position frequently communicates verbally with coworkers and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
Compensation and Benefits
$70,000-80,000, commensurate with experience
