WHO WE ARE
LGBTQ Senior Housing Inc. is a small but mighty Boston-based nonprofit dedicated to creating affordable, LGBTQ-affirming senior housing. Our first community, The Pryde – complete with 74 units of income-restricted housing for folks aged 62+ and a vibrant Community Center – opened in Hyde Park in June 2024. This is the first LGBTQ-welcoming affordable senior housing in Boston and all of New England.
POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a highly organized, independent and proactive individual, passionate about our mission and vision, to be our first Development & Revenue Director. Building on our successes to date, the Development & Revenue Director will be our Senior Fundraiser, and is charged with the responsibility of developing and implementing our organization's first formal development plan and overseeing all fundraising activities, including annual campaigns, grants, and donor cultivation across different levels. The Development & Revenue Director will report to the Executive Director, and work closely with the Board of Directors and the Finance Committee. The Development & Revenue Director’s role is to enhance and support the overall mission of the organization by overseeing and directing development activities including donor research, individual philanthropy and foundation/grant management, and growing multiple sources and pipelines of unrestricted and program funds to meet LGBTQ Senior Housing’s financial and program goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES
In collaboration with the Executive Director and the Finance Committee, the Development & Revenue Director will develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising program to raise the revenue and philanthropic resources necessary to support and grow our organization’s programs and initiatives. Key responsibilities include:
- Planning and implementing fundraising and friend-raising strategies and programs, including corporate partnerships, foundation relations, and individual giving that will increase the organization’s operational support and capacity;
- Providing leadership, strategic direction, management and coordination for all aspects of the organization’s development efforts;
- Preparing an annual fundraising plan in collaboration with the Executive Director, Finance Committee, and relevant staff and consultants;
- Overseeing and executing on prospect development, donor solicitation, stewardship and recognition, and annual giving programs;
- Identifying and prioritizing grant and foundation opportunities, and overseeing and executing all elements of grant applications, awards, reporting and management;
- Developing a virtual and in-person event strategy and overseeing fundraising events, including major donor and LGBTQ+ community-specific events;
- Preparing newsletters, press releases, fundraising brochures and letters and other marketing materials, including the annual impact report; and
- Creating multimedia presentations to generate interest and support in existing and new markets.
The Development & Revenue Director will work collaboratively with volunteer and staff leadership to enhance their fundraising skills and expand fundraising opportunities, including:
- Working effectively with the Board of Directors and other key volunteers to leverage their talents, resources, and ideas to enhance fundraising activities, assisting Board members with identifying fundraising opportunities, and encouraging their ongoing participation as donors and solicitors;
- Coordinating fundraising activities for the Board of Directors and Board committees;
- Leading, mentoring and inspiring staff and volunteers, strategically growing staff and volunteers as resources allow, and collaborating in creating a work environment that is rewarding to staff and volunteers;
- Recruiting and motivating community and business volunteers to increase philanthropic engagement; and
- Fostering a culture of philanthropy within the organization, including ensuring that the organization’s systems and procedures support revenue and fund development.
The Development & Revenue Director will ensure that philanthropy and fundraising is carried out in accordance with our organization’s mission, vision and values. The Development & Revenue Director will provide data analysis and help establish performance measures and monitor results to assist the Executive Director, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors in the ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of the fundraising and development plan.
QUALIFICATIONS

- Five years of broad development experience, preferably in a small or medium-size LGBTQ+ organization;
- A proven track record of fundraising success;
- Experience with grant writing, corporation, foundation and donor research and stewardship and cultivation strategies, and development operations;
- Planning and project management skills with attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines and manage competing demands;
- A passion for LGBTQ Senior Housing Inc.'s mission, vision and values;
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to make effective and persuasive verbal and written presentations to volunteers, staff, Board members, donors, and others and to communicate and interact effectively within and outside our organization;
- Ability to proactively problem solve;
- Flexibility and strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills;
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Zoom and Google Drive; familiarity with MonkeyPod and DonorChoose; and
- Ability to work in-office and remotely.
