Job Description
Youth Opportunities Unlimited (Y.O.U) is dedicated to providing inspiring experiences for the youth of New Bedford, by creating opportunities that follow their natural curiosity. STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Director of Development will establish and lead the organization's first formal development department. This position is responsible for creating, implementing, and evaluating all fundraising strategies to support our mission. The Director will work closely with the Executive Director, the Board of Directors, and staff to develop a sustainable funding model and cultivate a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Leadership
- Implement the annual fundraising plan with specific goals, strategies, timelines, and budget
- Create the organization's first multi-year development strategy aligned with our strategic plan
- Establish development policies, procedures, and best practices
- Report regularly to the Executive Director and Board on fundraising progress and outcomes
- Serve as an organizational ambassador and relationship builder with key stakeholders
Individual Giving Program
- Lead fundraising efforts for annual fundraising event, Autumn Oasis
- Research and identify foundation, corporate, and government funding opportunities
- Work with the grant writer to develop and submit grant proposals and reports
- Build relationships with foundation officers and corporate partners
- Create sponsorship packages and benefits for events and programs
Development Operations
- Implement and manage donor database and tracking systems
- Ensure timely and accurate gift processing and acknowledgment
- Develop systems to track and report on development metrics
- Oversee fundraising budget and expense management
Team Leadership and Collaboration
- Provide fundraising training and support to the Executive Director and Board
- Supervise the Marketing and Communications Manager
- Collaborate with program staff to identify funding needs and gather impact stories
- Work with communications staff to create compelling fundraising content
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- 3-5 years of nonprofit fundraising experience with demonstrated success
- Experience with donor management systems and fundraising technology
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders
- Excellent organizational and project management abilities
- Understanding of nonprofit financial management fundamentals
- Demonstrated commitment to ethical fundraising practices.
Preferred:
- Experience building a development program from the ground up
- Knowledge of our mission area and the New Bedford community
- Grant writing and management experience
- Event planning experience
- CFRE certification or equivalent professional development
- Experience with board development and engagement
- Experience with Little Green Light database

CLASSIFICATION: FULL-TIME/EXEMPT
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
SALARY: $65,000-$75,000, commensurate with experience
