Job Description
Position Overview:
Mechanics Hall is searching for a strategic and skilled Director of Development committed to helping strengthen our organization’s ability to maintain the historic property and continue to successfully serve the community. The Director will take the lead to create and implement a comprehensive and consistent program of prospecting, cultivation, and stewardship for individuals, businesses, and foundations. The Director will work closely with the Executive Director to achieve revenue goals that support current needs and that grow the annual budget. We are looking for an energized, positive, and experienced individual who will help create and support a culture of philanthropy.
Responsibilities:
• Lead the identification, solicitation, cultivation, stewardship, and relationship building of all donors and prospects including individuals, businesses, and foundations. Areas of focus include Operations, Programs, and Capital.
• Ensure the Executive Director is supported with information and tools required to engage in effective development activity.
• Develop and manage budgets and create and execute annual development plan to support budget goals.
• Create and execute stewardship and retention tactics, working toward goals outlined in the annual development plan.
• Manage the membership program and ensure it remains attractive and enriching.
• Manage foundation relationships and write grant applications and major gift proposals.
• Manage sponsor solicitations for special events and cultural programming.
• Create and execute all appeals (including membership, annual, spring, and special solicitations) in print and online, with support from Marketing Communications.
• Work closely with Marketing Communications to reflect branded messaging and create effective donor and sponsor communications.
• Lead the creation and use of development messaging and integrate development strategies and tactics into the overall organizational mission.
• Work with Director of Finance to ensure data and gift accuracy and to supply information required for annual audit.
• Enlist certain staff and Trustees in the development effort including providing the tools and education they need to be successful members of the development team.
• Actively participate in all major activities at Mechanics Hall – annual meeting, special events, cultural programs, etc.
• Be a leading ambassador for Mechanics Hall at business and community events.
• Coordinate all aspects of fundraising events.
• Provide annual report content
• Become expert at the Neon CRM and make maximum use of its database and report capabilities.
Qualifications:
• Demonstrated success in a lead non-profit development role.
• Superb written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Creative, self-starter attitude that thrives in a small-staff environment.
• Event planning experience.
• Relentless attention to details.
• Organized and inspiring leadership.
• Love of culture and history.
• Customer service minded.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of applications, and the ability to quickly learn new software.
• Experience with CRM software preferred
• Bachelor’s degree.
• Knowledgeable in best practices and ethical standards for non-profit fundraising.
This full-time position reports to the Executive Director.
Annual Salary is $65,000 - $75,000 based on skills and experience.

The Hall is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization owned and operated by the Worcester County Mechanics Association. It is a National Historic Landmark building and has served the Worcester community since 1857.
