Director of Accounting/Controller
Brookhaven at Lexington, a prestigious private retirement community located on the Lexington/Waltham line is currently seeking a Director of Accounting/Controller to be responsible for directing operation of the Accounting Department in accordance with current laws and regulations and Brookhaven’s goals and objectives. Oversee all aspects of the departmental operations and quality improvement efforts, including: developing and administrating programs and services, maintaining cost efficiency, training and coaching employees, and facilitating change within department. Responsible for establishing departmental policies and procedures to ensure programs and services meet or exceed Resident’s needs and expectations.
This position is 40 hours per week and fully in-person.
Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain high quality programs and services that promote the well-being of Brookhaven residents and result in a high level of satisfaction.
- Maintain commitment to excellence in carrying out departmental responsibilities.
- Ensure resident satisfaction relating to Accounting Department.
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, interim monthly and quarterly financial statements.
- Maintain overall audit preparedness and coordinate annual audit, tax preparation and cost reporting.
- Prepare other financial reports as needed, including covenant reporting, actuarial compilation, financial projections, and other reports as required.
- Review monthly general ledger activity, month end work papers and reconciliations for consistency and accuracy.
- Provide Department Directors with monthly variance report and analytical support as needed.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting for covenants, state and federal reports.
- Coordinate annual budget process; prepare revenue projections, expense projections, capital spending projections, and summary reports for review.
- Maintain record retention program for accounting records.
- Work with IT Director and others as needed to automate accounting systems wherever possible.
- Provide support and backup for Accounting staff.
- Maintain accounting procedures, reporting and records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principals and Brookhaven policies and procedures.
- Coordinate annual facility insurance renewals.
- Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by Sr. Vice President/CFO
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field.
- A minimum of five to seven years management experience in finance with supervisory experience.
