Job Description

OVERVIEW: Habitat for Humanity North Central Massachusetts (Habitat NCM) is an independent, non-profit affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International with a 37-year history of building and repairing simple, affordable housing in our local communities. Our mission is to bring people together to build homes, communities and hope. Our annual budget is just over $1.3 million and we have two major programs, home ownership and critical home repair, focused on area residents earning less than 60% of area median income. We serve 30 communities in North Central Massachusetts and we’ve built, repaired or revitalized over 200 houses with volunteer labor and materials that are both donated and purchased.
JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Development will create and implement the development and fundraising strategy for Habitat NCM.  This position works with the Executive Director to strategically plan and set goals to achieve long term sustainability centered on the building shelter for those in need. The Director will cultivate corporate partners, foundations and individual donors as well as ensure that affiliate events, appeals, and grants are integrated in an overall plan. We value relationship-based fundraising and seek a leader who will develop long-term donor partnerships that support our mission of transforming lives in our community.
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Develop and drive short- and long-term development planning with clear and concise fundraising goals and objectives supported by detailed tactics and metrics.
  • Communicate an aggressive development and stewardship plan that incorporates a range of strategies including cultivation of major donors and donor prospects, annual appeals, sponsorships, and corporate and individual giving. 
  • Work with ReStore Director to secure an in-kind donor base from local corporations and retailers
  • Develop prospecting, appreciation and recognition strategies and materials.
  • Identify and cultivate major individual and corporate donor and/or sponsorship prospects;
  • Work with Executive Director and Board of Directors to increase the organization’s visibility to external constituencies. 
  • Represent affiliate at meetings and events as an ambassador of the brand, including public speaking and solicitations.
  • Train, supervise and support volunteer fundraisers including the Board of Directors, Local Project Committees and Development Committee.
  • Write case statements, major gift solicitation proposals, reports, and related communication materials. 
  • Work with office staff/volunteers to maintain database files and records used to track contributions and maintain accurate mailing lists. 
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 10+ years of professional experience
  • Proven experience as a dynamic leader
  • Knowledge of donor database management, social media and web management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a diverse and ever-growing donor base
  • Knowledge of marketing strategies, processes, and available resources including social media marketing and web-based strategies
  • Organizational, project planning and leadership skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills: ability to interact effectively with community leaders, board members, prospects, donors and a variety of volunteers.
  • Adept at public speaking, can compel others to partner with Habitat NCM
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated creativity, drive and enthusiasm to carry projects to conclusion
  • Ability to gather data, analyze metrics, and prepare supporting reports
  • Willingness to work flexible hours which may include evening and weekends
