Classification: Exempt - Part Time
Working Hours: Standard hours with night and weekend hours expected for special events
Working Location: Hybrid Boston - Majority onsite in Boston-based office, with some remote flexibility and statewide travel
Hourly Rate: $30-32 (commensurate with experience)
Hours per Week: 28

An affiliate of The National Mentoring Partnership (MENTOR), MMP is part of a national effort that helps grassroots organizations foster quality mentoring relationships by producing research for the field, shaping policy change through advocacy, and driving public awareness on the impact of mentoring for young people.
For more than 30 years MMP has served as an intermediary organization, providing the critical link between national evidence-based research and programs across Massachusetts. MMP provides the tools, research, training, and best practices adults require to truly show up for youth in a caring and consistent way in schools, community, and workplaces.

Position Summary:
Mass Mentoring Partnership (MMP) seeks an energetic, creative, and detail-oriented Development Communications Specialist to support fundraising, donor engagement, events, and organizational communications.
Reporting to the Director of Development, this position plays a key role in growing individual philanthropy, elevating MMP's statewide brand presence, and telling the story of mentoring across Massachusetts. The Development Communications Specialist will lead MMP's peer-to-peer fundraising initiatives, annual giving campaigns, fundraising communications, public relations, and digital marketing efforts while helping strengthen relationships with donors, volunteers, corporate partners, and community stakeholders.
This role combines conversion-driven digital storytelling, public relations, and fundraising campaign execution to increase visibility, engage new audiences, and directly drive individual donor acquisition and retention. Utilizing Givebutter as MMP's core fundraising platform, the Development Communications Specialist will develop and execute integrated campaigns that transform public awareness, advocacy efforts, and community engagement into sustainable individual giving and long-term donor relationships.
This is an ideal opportunity for a fundraising communications professional who enjoys wearing multiple hats, managing projects from start to finish, and leveraging compelling storytelling to inspire action and generate philanthropic support.
Key Responsibilities:
Individual Giving & Annual Campaigns
Support the planning and execution of MMP’s annual fundraising calendar, including year-end giving, Giving Tuesday, and other individual giving campaigns; assist with the creation of campaign materials and donor communications. Assist with donor cultivation, stewardship, and acknowledgment communications.
Support donor segmentation and campaign tracking within the donor database.
Help grow MMP's annual fund and recurring giving program.
Maintain accurate donor records and campaign reporting.
Peer-to-Peer Fundraising
Manage MMP's peer-to-peer fundraising initiatives, including the Boston Marathon, Falmouth Road Race, and other athletic fundraising events.
Onboard, and steward fundraising participants.
Assist with development of fundraising toolkits, email templates, social media content, and participant resources.
Monitor fundraising progress and provide coaching and encouragement to participants.
Fundraising Events
Support planning and execution of fundraising and stewardship events, including Cheers! to Mentoring, Business Community Breakfast, and Mentoring Night at Fenway.
Coordinate event logistics, invitations, sponsorship recognition, auction materials, and volunteer communications.
Assist with event marketing and post-event stewardship.
Communications & Marketing
Develop engaging content for email campaigns, newsletters, website updates, blog posts, and social media.
Manage MMP's social media channels and content calendar.
Design digital and print marketing materials using Canva or similar design software.
Proactively identify and pursue media opportunities that elevate MMP's statewide profile; build relationships with journalists, develop press materials, and coordinate media outreach around key initiatives and events.
- Gather stories, photos, testimonials, and impact data from programs and partners.
- Produce impact reports, sponsorship materials, and presentations.
Ensure brand consistency across all communications.
General Development Support
Collaborate with the Manager of Development Operations to complete donor research and prospect tracking.
Assist with sponsorship outreach and fulfillment.
Collaborate with staff across the organization to support development and communications initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
2–4 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, communications, or marketing with experience managing digital marketing, social media campaigns, or communications within a nonprofit or advocacy setting.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to create compelling visual content and persuasive copy using Canva for digital and print communications.
Strong organizational and project management abilities.
Experience building and managing online fundraising campaigns using Givebutter or comparable fundraising platforms, including peer-to-peer fundraising and text-to-donate campaigns.
Ability to manage social media platforms and email marketing.
- Passion for youth development, education, mentoring, and advancing equity.
Ideal Candidate Attributes:
Experience with peer-to-peer fundraising and fundraising events.
Familiarity with donor databases (Salesforce).
- Demonstrated experience coordinating with local press or running advocacy-based communications.
