Job Description

Charles River Watershed Association (CRWA), an internationally-recognized environmental advocacy nonprofit based in Boston, MA, is seeking a Development Associate to join our small but growing Development team. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a mission-based organization working on the front lines of climate change and clean water protection. Reporting to the Development Director, the Development Associate provides critical support for CRWA’s fundraising and donor engagement efforts. This role is ideal for someone in the earlier stages of their career who is looking to gain experience in a wide range of Development-related activities and grow within the organization and the Development space.

Responsibilities:
  • Donor and prospect research
  • Assist with grant and foundation research and applications
  • Database entry
  • Mail and gift processing
  • Donor acknowledgments
  • Assist with arranging meetings/calendars for Executive Director and Development Director
  • Proofread and prepare proposals and donor solicitation letters/packets
  • Organize/assist with special events
  • Work with the Development Manager to plan and prepare meetings for both internal and external constituents
  • Remain informed about emerging and best practices in the Development field
  • Support other Development activities as needed

Qualifications:
  • Multilingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks with strong attention to detail and follow-through
  • Strong proofreading skills
  • At least 1 year of experience in fundraising or in an administrative role, in a non-profit setting preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree or work experience equivalence preferred
  • Effective time management and task prioritization in a fast-paced environment
  • Technical competency and capacity to learn new software systems
  • Knowledge of GSuite, Google Docs and Google Sheets, and fundraising database systems (Donor Perfect) preferred
  • Understanding of social media and design best practices preferred
  • Capable of working independently and taking initiative
  • Excellent oral and written communication/customer service skills and the ability to communicate the mission of CRWA to external stakeholders

Compensation & Benefits:
This is a full-time position based in Boston with competitive salary and benefits, including generous paid time off, employer contributions to health insurance premiums and retirement plan, and a public transit stipend. CRWA’s office operates on a hybrid remote/in-person schedule. Starting salary range for this position is $50,000-60,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
