Job Description

Are you looking for a part-time youth development position where you can have fun and work directly with girls? Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts (“GSEMA”) is seeking candidates for the position of Community Engagement Facilitator.

Reporting to the Director of Community Engagement, the Community Engagement Facilitator will facilitate and mentor other adults to facilitate Girl Scout troop meetings primarily in Somerville and the surrounding area. 

Meetings may occur in after-school settings, youth and community organizations and housing developments in specific areas of Eastern Massachusetts. Opportunities may include recurring troop meetings, participation in Girl Scout product sales, the recruitment of girls and volunteers and short series program opportunities. 

This position is for up to 12 hours per week; after-school, evening, and weekend hours available. Opportunities for additional hours through the support of council wide signature programs may be available.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Modify and implement program curriculum at assigned sites.
  • Identify and outreach to community resources for supporting girl development including guest speakers, service learning opportunities and field trips.
  • Encourage girl decision making and leadership through positive activities and group mentoring.
  • Facilitate participation in Girl Scout product sales.
  • Register girls and adults participating in programs as Girl Scouts.
  • Prepare and submit yearly, quarterly or weekly electronic and written session plans and reports as needed.
  • Attend trainings, meetings and supervision as required.
  • Ensure that services delivered exhibit an understanding and appreciation for diversity and contribute to the cultural competence of girls and adults.

Skills and Qualifications:  

  • Be legal age of majority with a High School diploma or equivalent. 
  • Experience with Girl Scouting and/or working with groups of youth is desirable.
  • Ability and desire to work as part of a cooperative team and work effectively with groups of Girl Scouts, community groups, volunteers, and staff.
  • Comfortable reading and implementing curriculum.
  • Enthusiasm and desire to provide a fun and enriching Girl Scout experience to all girls.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office and reliable access to internet.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, as necessary.
  • Bi-lingual skill is desirable.

Work Environment:

Mobilized/ hybrid work arrangement with work from home, at designated GSEMA service centers, in communities served, and at designated GSEMA properties as needed. 
 
Physical Demands: 

Ability to lift and manipulate up to 15 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. 

Travel Requirements: 

Must have access to reliable transportation to travel to community sites and GSEMA offices/service centers as needed. Reliable transportation includes but not limited to access to public transpiration or be in possession of a valid driver’s license and access to motor vehicle.
