Communications Coordinator

JALSA, a membership based social justice organization, is devoted to the pursuit of social, economic, environmental, and racial justice.  Our organization focuses primarily on state legislative campaigns, working closely with many grassroots organizations and coalitions. JALSA uses many approaches to accomplish its mission, including advocacy, community organizing, education, amicus briefs and legal strategies, and coalition building.

We’re looking for a talented, creative, and organized Communications Coordinator to join our team.  This role will support JALSA’s organizing, programming, government affairs and fundraising teams to reach, engage, and inspire people across the Commonwealth who wish to work with JALSA to bring about our vision of a more just and equitable society.

 As our Communications Coordinator, some of your responsibilities will include: 

  • Working with our organizers, program coordinator and government affairs team to create JALSA’s weekly Action Alert.

  • Assisting in building, updating, and maintaining communications channels including the JALSA website, social media accounts, e-mail communication and printed materials.

  • Working with the other staff to craft our messaging including op-eds, blogs, and letters to the editor.

  • Helping to produce an experimental video podcast.

  • Working with the Development Team to research and write grants.

  • Connecting with members of both the general and Jewish media who would be interested in writing stories connected to JALSA’s unique point of view.

Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to understand how to connect with Jewish social justice activists and community leaders. 

  • A passion for social justice and making positive change in the world, a commitment to working in a collaborative team setting, and cross-cultural sensitivity.

  • Ability to be in touch with colleagues and supervisors remotely through email, phone calls, Zoom and other technology.

  • Understand how to use G-suite, and ability to master Canva, Constant Contact, Action Network and Squarespace

  • Ability to think and act independently, manage deadlines and use initiative to ask questions and make suggestions.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Experience writing grants for a non-profit organization preferred.

Also Highly Desired:

  • Familiarity with Jewish cultural norms and navigating Jewish institutions. 

  • Knowledge of Massachusetts and Jewish media outlets.

  • Experience working in a journalism setting.
