Lathrop Community, Inc., an affiliate of the highly regarded Kendal system, is a senior living community affording independent living in 138 townhomes on two spacious campuses located in Northampton and neighboring Easthampton, Massachusetts. Also located on the Easthampton campus is a 60-unit apartment building which offers independent residents a uniquely supportive “Enhanced Living”, which includes individual care plans, meds management, and morning and evening visits from healthcare staff, and other services. Lathrop has been at virtual full occupancy for the past several years, and currently has a waiting list in excess of 300.

Lathrop is a highly vibrant, supportive community influenced from its inception by Quaker values. The two campuses are a vital part of the highly educated and culturally oriented region of the Pioneer Valley, well known for its concentration of five top ranked colleges – including Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke, Smith Colleges, and The University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Northampton is the county seat of Hampshire County and is known as an academic, artistic, musical, and multi-cultural hub.

Responsibilities, Qualifications and Requisite Experiences
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO provides vision, strategic direction, fiscal oversight, and leadership in the fulfillment of the community’s mission and vision.

Of immediate importance, the Board has put the strategic planning process on pause until a new CEO is in place, with the expectation that she or he will soon develop a master plan that will address both resident expectations and market dynamics. Accordingly, the new CEO will possess the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of ten years of non-profit, managerial and leadership experience; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Skilled operationally: demonstrated track record in designing and leading performance excellence initiatives resulting in continuous and sustained improvement. Operational acumen will include keen fiscal management and evidence of successful financial oversight, performance assessment, management accountability, an outcomes orientation, and a demonstrated track record in developing programs to enhance resident, family, and associate engagement.
  • Demonstrated track record of success in providing leadership to repositioning projects, while ensuring a continued focus on maintaining high quality and financially viable services for existing residents.
  • Exceptional managerial and communication abilities, outstanding interpersonal and diplomacy skills with the empathy and genuine interest to work with stakeholders throughout Lathrop Community. A track record in instilling a culture of accountability, team building, effective delegation, and staff development and retention across an organization.
  • The ability and interest to represent and become the public face of Lathrop in Hampshire County and the wider Pioneer Valley.
  • Accessible and responsive to the needs and expectations of residents, families and staff.
  • Experience with developing innovative programs, partnerships and affiliations and the creativity and imagination to ensure that Lathrop is an organization at the leading edge of providing programs and services to the widest and most diverse spectrum of seniors.
  • In all of the above, evidence of a personal and trusting presence that is driven by the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, values, mission, and goals of Lathrop. The successful candidate will demonstrate integrity, sincerity, humility and respect for individuals, and inspire trust in and from others.
