Job Description
Every summer at Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts (“GSEMA”), girls arrive at a summer camp excited for new experiences. At camp, we encourage them to be courageous, demonstrate compassion and leadership, and participate in energetic activities that build memories for a lifetime. GSEMA currently looking for a dedicated and qualified resident Camp Director for our 2022 summer camp season at Camp Favorite. Camp Favorite is located on beautiful Cape Cod and is GSEMA’s premier sailing and water sports resident camp. Camp Favorite’s water sport activities are a thrilling twist on the traditional summer camp experience; offering girls the opportunity to sail, windsurf, kayak, surf, swim and bike the Cape Cod Canal.
Resident camp will run from mid-June to mid-August.
The Camp Director will direct the operation of a camp program, giving consideration to the health and safety of campers, the policies, standards, plan of work and the budget of the council, as well as the needs and interests of staff and campers both in groups and as individuals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Recruit, select and train staff.
- Maintain good public relations and communication with campers, their parents, fellow staff, and the community in person and online.
- Maintain accurate, up to date records, finances; submit reports and evaluations on time as requested.
- Support, schedule, and evaluate staff under direct supervision.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date employee records and documentation.
- Develop a progressive program in keeping with the goals, objectives, and safety standards of the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts (“GSEMA”) and encourage girl/adult partnership in all camp activities.
- Monitor purchases, expenditures ensuring they do not exceed the camp budget.
- Responsible for the health, safety and wellbeing for all campers and ensures that Girl Scout safety standards, state standards, and family camping best practices are communicated and enforced with all staff, campers, and visitors.
- Responsible for ensuring American Camping Association (“ACA”) accreditation standards are followed for all camp programming. Manage accreditation documentation for accreditation visits and take the lead with visitors on the day of the visit. Work with the Director of Outdoor Adventure & Camps to ensure successful accreditation visit every 5 years as required by ACA.
- Contribute to the promotion of Girl Scouting, GSEMA programs and camps, and other council programs and events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Be a registered Girl Scout member.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Previous camp experience.
- Be at least 25 years of age by June, 2022.
- Experience working with children ages 7-17 and with adults.
- Experience leading activities and teaching children, teens, and adults in the outdoors.
- Supervisory experience in a camp setting.
- Ability to effectively identify, analyze and solve practical problems and successfully manage a variety of variables and personalities; ability to adapt in a changing environment.
- Familiar with Girl Scout program.
- Familiar with ACA accreditation process for camps.
- Ability to work and live within the camp environment.
- Holds current First Aid and CPR certifications from an accepted provider.
- Must complete a criminal background check.
- GSEMA requires that new employees be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 at time of hire. GSEMA will consider requests for medical or religious exemption that do not pose undue hardship or a direct threat to health or safety.
Work Environment:
- Work may be indoors or outdoors and may be during hot, humid, rainy or cool weather.
- Work will be during daytime, evening, and overnight hours.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk on varied terrain, play games with campers and talk or hear.
- Specific vision ability required by this job is the ability to adjust vision to bring objects into focus. Ability to differentiate colors helpful.
- Must be able to lift a maximum of 30 pounds on a regular basis.
