Founded in Boston in 2004, GreenLight Fund addresses barriers to economic mobility for children, youth and families in high-poverty urban areas by creating local infrastructure and a consistent annual process to:

  • Identify critical needs and barriers for people experiencing poverty;
  • Import innovative, entrepreneurial programs that can have a significant, measurable impact; and
  • Galvanize local support to help programs reach and sustain impact in the city.

In addition to the founding site in Boston, GreenLight Fund now has sites in Philadelphia, the Bay Area, Cincinnati, Charlotte, Detroit, Kansas City, Atlanta, the Twin Cities, and is currently launching in Baltimore. Since our founding, GreenLight has launched and supported 33 innovative organizations in sites that reached more than 325,000 children and families last year. With a new strategic plan in place, GreenLight Fund is poised for continued growth, with a focus on deepening community impact, growing to new cities, building our learning capacity, building strategic partnerships, and centering equity in all that we do.

 The Opportunity

GreenLight Fund is currently in the process of selecting a new accounting software system and bringing accounting in-house. Reporting to the Director of Finance & Operations (DFO), the bookkeeper will be an integral part of the Finance & Operations team in supporting the accurate accounting and reporting of GreenLight Fund’s financial operations.  This is a fantastic opportunity to get involved in the implementation of a new accounting system and to support the growth of GreenLight Fund.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Ensure all transactions are recorded accurately in accordance with established procedures and generally accepted accounting principles 
  • Record pledges and payments from donors, make check deposits, communicate with sites regarding payments received
  • Process accounts payable and ensure payments are coded and entered correctly, including vendor payments, grant payments to portfolio organizations, and employee reimbursements
  • Support payroll processing and post journal entries 
  • Manage bank reconciliations
  • Support the implementation of the new accounting software
  • Support the annual audit and 990 process
  • Support the annual budgeting process as needed
  • Perform other finance and administrative duties as assigned

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is motivated, detail-oriented, organized, able to multi-task effectively and follow through. The candidate is able to work independently and as part of a team and able to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with staff. This position is intended to be hybrid (remote and in-office) and based in the greater Boston area. 

Qualifications

  • Bookkeeping experience, preferably in non-profit organizations
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, and Google Suite. Demonstrated ability to get up to speed quickly using new technology 
  • Experience with Salesforce, Paychex, and Box.com a plus
  • Passion for GreenLight’s mission 
  • B.A. or Associates Degree in Accounting or Finance preferred

Compensation and Benefits

The starting salary range for this position is $50K - $55K. The compensation package includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401K match, and generous PTO and parental leave, as well as short- and long-term disability, life insurance, FSA, Employee Assistance Program, and professional development stipend.
