Job Description

The Collaborative for Educational Services (CES) is seeking classroom assistants to help lead STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) activities for PK-5th grade in the afternoons for the Massachusetts Migrant Education Program (MMEP). The program runs for 5 weeks starting on July 5th and will be held at Boland Elementary School in Springfield. The sessions will be from 1-4 pm Monday through Thursday and will be connected with the Springfield Public Schools’ summer school program. The classroom assistants will work together with the instructor to engage students in fun art and science activities while also giving them the opportunity to practice their English skills. 

This is you:
  • Comfortable communicating in English and Spanish
  • Has experience working with school age children in a formal or informal setting
  • Available 12 hours a week between July 5th and August 4th plus a few hours the last week of June for training

Essential Functions:
  • Maintain a positive and fun environment that is engaging and enjoyable for students 
  • Support the instructor in adapting the daily plan to accommodate the abilities, needs and interests of students
  • Translate between English and Spanish when needed
  • Communicate regularly with the instructor and Program Coordinator 

Minimum Qualifications*:
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (required)
  • Prior experience working with school age children
  • Are able to pass a CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) screening

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associates or Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university 
  • One year of teaching experience in a formal or informal setting

Compensation: $25/hour 

Terms of Employment: This position is 12 hours a week from July 5th to August 4th plus training at the end of June
